When the ball and taper principle was first employed is unknown however patents for its use in oil and gas were filed in the 1920s.
The application for the technology is diverse and FTL was employed to develop a bespoke application for the client in a highly demanding application down hole in which pipe condition and accurate internal diameter are largely unknown.
The challenge was also to squeeze “two pints into pint pot” with very limited space in which to locate all the service lines.
